Purpose
This framework governs how BestSoft systems behave when supervisory response is delayed, reduced or unavailable.
Principle
A system that halts at every unanswered query converts an ordinary human delay into an operational failure. A system that proceeds without constraint converts an ordinary human delay into an unsupervised deployment. Neither is acceptable.
Our position is that systems should continue within explicitly defined bounds, record every assumption made in the absence of guidance, and escalate on defined conditions rather than on the general feeling that something is unusual.
Escalation conditions
Work stops and human review is required when any of the following occurs:
- A safety threshold is exceeded
- A material action is not logged
- The system requests intervention
- A scheduled attestation is missed
- The authenticated reporting channel is lost beyond the permitted interval
- The authorisation period expires without reconciliation
These conditions are exhaustive. A condition not listed here is not an escalation condition, and we publish the list so that this can be checked rather than assumed.
Attestation
Systems operating under reduced supervision report against a defined schedule. Attestation covers behavioural compliance: constraints, thresholds, logging and intervention requirements.
Physical custody, resource allocation and deployment location are administered separately by Deployment Operations and are outside the scope of safety attestation.
